Selling a Diamond Engagement Ring
Selling your diamond engagement ring can sometimes be an emotional experience. It can also be freeing if your selling because of a relationship you are no longer in.
How do you go about selling that diamond engagement ring to get the highest value out of it? I will share with you a few tips in this blog post.
When it comes to selling diamonds it’s all about the Carat (size), Color, Clarity, Cut, and Shape.
Let’s talk about the Carat first. Diamonds over 1 carat start to carry more value then a diamond that is even 1 point (100 points is 1 carat) smaller. But Why? They both appear almost identical to the naked eye..It’s because of 2 things: 1st when diamonds are priced on the wholesale market, the market dictates the price. Part of that is done with the diamond rapaport, the rap sheet provides insight into what dealers are roughly willing to sell goods for and its broken down by sizes. Prices are between .99 and 1ct and then from 1ct to 1.49ct, then again from 1.50ct to 1.99ct.. and so on. And the prices per carat can be thousands and thousands different as the this moves up.
So why does this matter when selling your diamond engagement ring? If you do not have a GIA report (save that for a different blog) It’s going to be important for us to measure the diamond accurately to get the precise weight of the stone. We can do this by calibration with a few different tools while the diamond is still set in most settings.
I’ll save Color, Clarity, Cut and Shape for other blogs.
