How to Sell Sterling Silverware Sets
When it comes to selling sterling silverware sets there are a few things that you need to know. Let’s start with silver purity marks. How do you tell if your sterling silver is indeed silver or silver plated? Real sterling silver is going to be specifically marked with the word Sterling or 925. There are exceptions to this when it comes to world silver purity marks and english silver purity marks because they have their own markings but for this blog let’s stick to the basics, and if you are not sure always bring it in for us to check it out.
If you see any of the following stamps on your silverware: EPNS, I.S., INLAY, E.P., Quadruple, International Silver or another marker followed by just the word silver, it is in fact not sterling but silver plated. It can be a little confusing at first so don’t get super overwhelmed when looking for silver purity marks and remember you can always bring it in for us to check it out for you.
One other quick thing besides the silver marks is to take into account most knives in silverware sets have stainless steel blades and filler inside the handles. This keeps them in shape and helps them to stay sharper over time. Most knives in silverware sets have very little sterling silver in them when you take them apart. Think of an aluminum can once it’s been emptied.
